Pasadena Police Chief Gene Harris has categorized a September 2025 incident, in which one officer shot another during a parking-garage interaction, as "unsafe and out-of-policy horseplay," according to department video released last week, approximately nine months after the event.
Per the *Los Angeles Times*, one of two standing officers drew his handgun and pointed it at an arriving police cruiser, then holstered the weapon and smiled at his colleague. The driver of the cruiser drew his own weapon, which discharged and struck the first officer in the shoulder. The wounded officer has since recovered. The officer who fired is no longer with the department.
The video was withheld pending completion of the internal investigation, which has now formally established that the activity was, in fact, horseplay. Boys will be boys.
